Women's Track and Field Places Third at Island Meet

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Southwestern University Pirates women's track and field placed third at the Island Meet over the weekend, scoring an 81 in the five-team meet.

Erica Robuck and Britney Carteret placed fourth and fifth in the 100 meters with times of 13.19 and 13.29 with Robuck pacing the Pirates in the 200 meters, finishing sixth with a time of 27.67.

Keamber McCracken and Mallory Harkins placed fifth and sixth in the 400 meters with times of 1:03.66 and 1:06.77. Valerie Acosta finished 18th in the 800 meters and 1,500 meter, running a 2:46.30 and 5:34.04.

In the hurdles, Mojo Mbue finished 10th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 24.37 and the Pirates placed second in the 4 x 100 relays with Carteret, Ashley, Harkins, and Robuck running a 51.67 and second in the 4 x 400 relays with Robuck, Gilpin, McCracken, and Harkins running a 4:14.94.

Jay Ashely placed third in the long jump with a distance of 4.83m. In the shot put, Jaelynn Stewart threw an 11.54m and teammate Erin Toro placed fourth with a mark of 10.84m.

Hannah Bruce (34.37m) and Toro (34.21m) finished second and third in the discus. Bruce finished third in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.14. Gilpin and Toro finished 10th and 11th in the javelin throw with marks of 28.83m and 27.98m.

The Pirates will travel down I-35 to compete in the Texas State Bobcat Meet in San Marcos, Texas on March 28 and 29, then further south on Sunday, March 31 to compete in the Texas Quad Meet hosted by Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
