Duarte, Sheffer Earn Athlete-of-the-Week Honors

Southwestern women's track & field athletes Lilly Duarte and Cara Sheffer were selected as the SCAC Track & Field Female Athletes-of-the-Week this week. This is Duarte's third time earning the honor and Sheffer's first.

LILLY DUARTE OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Streetman, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted from Monday, April 8 through Sunday, April 14.

Running from the front, Duarte won the 800 (2:21.53) at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational in Abilene, Texas on Saturday. She also ran a leg on the Pirates' women's 4x400 relay team that placed third overall.

CARA SHEFFER OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Mansfield, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets conducted from Monday, April 8 through Sunday, April 14.

Throwing the Javelin for the first time, Sheffer placed third overall at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational on Friday. Her throw of 29.68m moves her to second on the SCAC performance list.

The Pirates close the season at the SCAC Championships hosted by Trinity in San Antonio beginning on April 26th.
