GEORGETOWN, Tex.Zoe Garcia's three first-place finishes led the Southwestern University women's swimming & diving team against Colorado College on Saturday AT THE Walzel Natatorium.

Garcia, who was six days removed from being honored with the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's women's swimmer of the week after two wins and a second last week, made a strong case for a repeat for the SCAC award.

A junior from Odem, Texas, Garcia earned wins in the individual races of the 200-yard free and 100-yard free as well as the 400-yard free relay to close the dual out for the women's events.

In the 200-yard free race, Garcia outstretched Colorado College's Kate Brush for the win with a time of 1:57.59 compared to Brush's 1:57.67.

The 100-yard free was dominated by the Pirates with Garcia taking first with a 54.13 while Emma Frey and Delaney Anthony tied for second with a 56.82.

The one event win for Southwestern that Garcia was not part of was the 200-yard backstroke that Elise Samples won in a time of 2:10.99.

Samples and Garcia teamed up with Anthony and Emma Williams to improve upon last week's 400-yard freestyle relay by over 1.5 seconds.

Delaney swam a strong first leg in 56.64 before Garcia broke the race open with a 53.52, which was a half second better than last week's opening leg she swam.

Williams extended the lead with a 56.07 leg before Samples gave the competition no chance for a comeback as she swam a 54.75 for a total team time of 3:40.98.

Anthony and Samples would add a second-place finish in dual's opening race, which was the 400-yard medley relay.

The pair teamed with Annie LeBlanc and Maysen Hauck for second place with a time of 4:14.08.

Molly Spano was the top distance swimmer for Southwestern as she earned second-place finishes in the 500-yard free (5:36.51) and the 1,000-yard free (11:23.39).

The team competition did unfortunately go to the Tigers and dropping Southwestern to 2-1 on the season.
