Men's Swimming and Diving Places Third at the SCAC Championships

GARLAND, Texas — The Southwestern men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its SCAC Championship Meet with a third-place finish, behind the SCAC Champion Trinity Tigers and Colorado College Tigers. 

Southwestern took two of the top three spots in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Sebastian Ortiz defended Southwestern's title in the event from last year, winning with a time of 16:23.14. Will Barber of Colorado College finished second with a time of 16:23.80, and Southwestern's Keshaun Patel placed third, clocking in at 16:41.07. 

Zachary Kangieser broke Trinity's four-year stranglehold on the 200-yard butterfly, winning with a time of 1:51.54. 

Southwestern placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Sam Anderson, Ortiz, Carter Duncan, and Henry McClure clocked a time of 3:07.14. Trinity won the events with a SCAC-record time of 3:01.73, and Colorado College followed with a time of 3:06.14. 

The Pirates concluded the SCAC Championships with 12 top-three finishes, including two wins, four second-place finishes, and six third-place finishes. Southwestern also had one NCAA B-cut and will wait to see who will be invited to compete in the NCAA Championships.
