Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates men's swimming and diving team defeated the Austin College Kangaroos 142-81 in a head-to-head meet. 

Southwestern opened the event with a victory in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, led by Carter Duncan, Alek Argueta, Massimo Gasponi, and Keith Gill. the quartet finished with a score of 1:40.44. Austin College disqualified itself during the event, leaving the Pirates with the top two spots. 

In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Nathan Saeger was the lone swimmer to finish under 11 minutes at 10:50.01. Colton Creasey followed with a time of 11:09.95. 

The Pirates placed the top three in the 200-yard freestyle, led by Dylan Neumann's 1:49.97, followed by Matthew Oevermann (1:53.19) and Mario Foltz (1:54.44). 

Austin College picked up its first event in the 50-yard freestyle when Ethan Nguyen's time of 22.24 edged out Sam Anderson's 22.28. Nguyen also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.47. 

Southwestern responded by taking the top three spots in the 200-yard individual medley, paced by Brock Bloomquist's 2:06.68. In the 100-yard freestyle, Anderson edged out teammate Keith Gill with a time of 48.09. 

Matthew Oevermann was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:02.49. 

The Pirates closed out the event with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, getting a time of 1:29.61 from the team of Todd Coachman, Henry McClure, Anderson, and Gill. 

Southwestern will compete tomorrow in Grapevine, Texas against Oklahoma Christian at noon.
