Pirates Close Gap on Third Day of SCAC Championships

THE COLONY, Texas - The Southwestern University men's swimming team closed the gap on the Trinity Tigers on day three of the SCAC Championships, setting up, what should be, an exciting final day at the Lewisville Aquatic Center.

Trinity remains ahead with 592.5 points, but Southwestern has cut the lead down as they check in second with 542.5 points. Colorado College is third with 347 poonts followed by Centenary with 298 and Austin College with 214.

Junior Peter Robinson got the Pirates rolling with a huge victory in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.38, taking nearly two seconds off his prelim time. That would lead to a huge win in the 400 medley relay as senior Michael Glover, freshman Alek Argueta, freshman Caleb Liles, and sophomore Todd Coachman won the event with a time of 3:31.30.

Argueta took home second place in the 100 breast with a time of 57.86 while Glover was third in the 100 back with a time of 52.47.

Liles finished in a tie for third place with a time of 51.62 in the 100 fly while freshman Matthew Oevermann was third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:06.42.

The Pirates will have one more day of competition on Saturday as they try and close the gap on the Tigers. The finals will including the 400 medley, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and the 400 medley relay. Prelims get rolling at 10:30 AM with finals beginning at 6 PM.
