Southwestern to compete in SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships this week

LEWISVILLE, Texas – The Southwestern University swimming & diving teams will compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Feb. 10-13 at the Lewisville Westside Aquatic Center.

Competition will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with a pair of relay events. The following three days features a schedule that included preliminary races at 10:30 a.m. with finals at 6:30 p.m. Diving will take place on both Friday and Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

The Pirates men's squad enters the championships with 14 top seeds, including five in relay events. Michael Glover and Matt Sluss both hold top seeds in three individual races.

Glover holds the conference's top times in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke. Sluss posted the league's best times in the 200-meter freestyle, butterfly and individual medley events.

Mickey Scharbrough enters as the favorite in the 100-meter and 200-meter breastrokes, while Simmon Belaineh logged the SCAC's best time in the 100-meter butterfly and Martin Martinez is seeded first in the 400-meter individual medley.

On the women's side, Southwestern owns top seeds in three races, including the 200-meter freestyle relay.

Alexandra Morris holds the conference's fastest time in the 500-meter freestyle, while Natalie Lesnick is the top seed for the 200-meter individual medley.
