Southwestern Men's Swimming Breaks 6 Records While Beating Trinity

The Southwestern University Swimming Team won its first team victory against Trinity University in Southwestern University swimming history today, Saturday October 27, 2012.

The Pirates had a huge day with 6 men's team swimming records broken. Tommy Frashier broke the 1000 Freestyle (9:59.27) and 500 Freestyle (4:54.15), Kyler Wood broke the 100 Breaststroke (1:00.57) and 200 Breaststroke 2:15.70). Ty Lapiniski broke the 200 Backstroke (2:02.36), along with the 200 Medley Relay (1:39.13).

The Pirates started out in a hole, as they do not have any divers that compete in the events so they started out 32 points down. That deficit was quickly erased when the men won the 200 Medley Relay right from the start with a time of (1:39.13). The men's 200 relay team is made up of Ty Lapiniski, Kyler Wood, Simon Gersib, and Dylan Johnson.

The men won 10 of 16 events and placed 1st and 2nd in the 400 Freestyle Relay.  The 1st place relay team of Ty Lapiniski, Kyler Wood, Simon Gersib, and Dylan Johnson had a time of (3:19.94). The second place team made up of Garrett Holody, Thomas Harland, CJ Payne, and Ivan Cruickshank had a time of (3:24:99)

Simon Gersib won the 200 Butterfly with a time of (2:03.53), Dylan Johnson won the 50 Freestyle with a time of (22.21) and then came back and won the 100 Freestyle with a time of (49.2).

The Pirates are a young group but seem ready to handle the heavy competition. The men look to keep on with the winning ways when they travel to Abilene, Texas for a meet with McMurry University on November 2nd, 2012.
