Season Long Improvement Lands Pirates in 6th at SCAC Championship

The Southwestern Pirates finished in 6th place after the last day of the SCAC Championship. 

In the 1650 freestyle Pirate swimmer Stephen Montes took charge of the day for the Pirates with a strong swim to finish 11th thanks to a season best time of 17:40.78. 

The Pirates continued to improve their position in the 100 freestyle with Patrick Flanigan leading the way with an 8th place finish and a time of 48.12.  Flanigan posted a new school record of 47.38 in the prelims of the event.  Garrett Holody, 49.30, and Ivan Cruickshank, 49.56, placed 14th and 15th in the event as well.  Holody set a personal best during the prelims while Cruickshank set a season best in the prelims. 

The Pirates depth continued to show in the 200 breast stroke as Sam Visser placed 10th with a time of 2:18.30 and a new school record and Daniel Withers placed 13th with a time of 2:21.13.  Withers set a personal best time of 2:19.16 in the prelims of the event. 

The final event of the season was a good one for the Pirates as the 400 freestyle relay team of Patrick Flanigan, Ivan Cruickshank, Garrett Holody, and Stephen Montes took 5th place and set a new school record 3:15.93.  The Pirates improved on their position from last year by 41 points and 2 spots at the SCAC Championship.

The men and women combined to break 13 school records at the meet.

The final event of the NCAA season will be the NCAA Championships held at IUPUI Natatorium on March 21.
