SHENANDOAH, Texas - The men's and women's swim teams closed out the SCAC Championships on Saturday evening and did so with strong races and by shedding numerous seconds, performing at their best all season.

Day three commenced with the 1650 free and both the men's and women's swimmers performed well. Elizabeth Lewis took 10 seconds off her seed time for a 12^th place finish with a time of 18:47.46 while Stephen Montes finished in a time of 17:31.58 for a 13^th place finish.

Bailey Thompson upped the ante in the 200 back, posting a time of 2:07.08, two and a half seconds better than her seed time, for a third place finish in the event. Sarah Ayers followed suit with a fifth place finish in the 100 free with a time of 53.58 while Patrick Flanigan, John Prater and Ivan Cruickshank finished in ninth, 12^th and 16^th respectively in the men's edition of the event. Flanigan came in at 47.84, Prater at 48.73 and Cruickshank at 50.27.

Sarah McCausland had a 13^th place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:36.04 while Mara Weidmann came in 16^th with a time of 2:41.24 in the same event. Melissa Nelson finished second in the consolation finals, 10^th overall, shaving three seconds off her seed time in the 200 butterfly to finish in a time of 2:14.44.

The night was capped off with a sixth place finish in the 400 free relay. Ayers, Michele Comerota, Thompson and Melissa Nelson teamed up to take nearly seven seconds off their time, ending in 3:39.03. The "B" team of Elizabeth Lewis, Christine Moody, McCausland and Sarah Alpini shed 11 seconds from their time to finish in 3:51.92 and in 15^th place.

After all the points were tallied the women's team landed in sixth place with a total of 318 points while the men finished in eighth with 182 points. Ayers advances to the NCAA Championships in March for her outstanding swim in the 100 back.
