Pirates Swim well but Drop McMurry Meet

Despite having fewer entries, the Southwestern Men's swimming team swam well and placed in the top three in almost every event.  Teh end result, a McMurry victory 120 to 62, did not tell the whole story as the Pirates swim team competed well in almost every event that was swam on the day.

The men's 400 yard medley team comprised of Josh Stanfield, John Prater, Adrian Gomez, and Ivan Cruickshank placed second at the McMurry meet with a time of 3:59.7.  Stephen Montes dominated the men's 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:55.87.  In a field of 5 for the 200 yard free style where the top three finishers were all within a second and a half of each other, Cruickshank and Taylor Steele placed first and third with times of 1:58.02 and 1:59.46.  John Prater and Josh Stanfield finished fourth and fifth with times of 23.33 and 24.71 in the 50 yard freestyle where the top four finishers were all within a second and a half of each other.  In the 200 yard individual IM Stephen Montes finished in 2:18.10  to finish second and Taylor Steele finished in 2:22.02 to place third in the event.  Adrian Gomez placed second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:32.17.  The Pirates placed three in the 100 yard freestyle with John Prater, 51.35, Ivan Cruickshank, 53.23, and Taylor Steele, 55.94, placing second, fourth, and fifth.  Josh Stanfield finished the 200 yard back stroke in 2:14.61 to place second in the event.  Stephen Montes dominated his second distance event of the meet when he finished the 500 yard freestyle in 5:17.25, eighteen seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
