Women's Lacrosse Falls in SCAC Final To Colorado College

IRVING, Texas — Southwestern women's lacrosse made it to the 2021 SCAC Championship Tournament final game but dropped to Colorado College 27-7.

Emma Pertuit scored three goals and grabbed five groundballs, won five draw controls, and caused turnovers.

The Pirates were the first to score as Deanna Hames slammed the ball into the back of the cage, giving Southwestern the lead within the first two minutes of the game. However, Colorado College was quick to answer by scoring five goals and holding the Pirates to one goal. Pertuit broke the non-scoring streak by making the Pirate's second unassisted goal, but once again, the Tigers took control of the offense and scored eight more goals while shutting down the Pirates offense, ending the first half 13-2.

Pertuit came back with a vengeance in the second half to score two back-to-back goals. Southwestern made the necessary moves in the second half to help them come back in the game, picking up 12 draw control wins and taking an even amount of shot attempts as Colorado. But a strong Tiger defense kept the Pirates at bay, resulting in Colorado College taking their third SCAC Championship title.

The Pirates won 16 of the 26 draw controls, with Raquel Kurth leading the team with seven. Hames tied with Pertuit, scoring three goals and winning three draw controls and Raven Garcia scored one goal.

Sofia Valdespino started as the goalkeeper for the Pirates and picked up seven saves, with Tessa Lewis taking over in the second half and making five saves.
