CONWAY, Ark. -- The Southwestern University women's lacrosse team struggled to close the gap against the Hendrix College Warriors and fell short 13-17 in their season opener.

In the first half of the game, Hendrix scored two quick goals past the Pirate defense within the game's first two minutes. Raven Garcia answered back to the Warriors by scoring the first goal off of a free position. The Warriors scored two more goals to stretch the lead, but this did not phase Emma Pertuit, who scored two back-to-back goals for the Pirates, leave the Pirates trailing by just one point.

However, the Warrior defense kicked into high gear and kept the Pirates from scoring another goal in the first half. Hendrix successfully utilized their offense and scored seven more goals to end the half 3-11.

In the second half, Pertuit started the half with a quick goal to try and push the Pirates in the right direction to get back into the game. Southwestern scored nine more goals soon after to attempt a comeback. However, because of Hendrix's lead in the first half and a few more goals in the second half, the Pirates fell 13-17 in their season opener on the road.
