Men's Tennis Defeats LeTourneau

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The No. 10-ranked Southwestern men's tennis team bounced back from its previous loss to Sewanee with a 7-2 victory over the LeTourneau Yellowjackets.

Southwestern mixed up its doubles lineups, starting Vesko Lekovic and Hemanshu Rambojun together at No. 1 doubles, and was rewarded with an 8-6 victory over Julian Lee and Patrick Baney.

Hunter Bajoit and Jared Burton defeated Rodrigo Vazquez and Miles Grubbs 8-2 in No. 2 doubles. However, LeTourneau's Nathan Schmidt and Ryan Holloway prevented Southwestern from sweeping doubles with an 8-3 victory over Oscar Roy and Carlos Esteban Rodero in No. 3 doubles.

"Vesko and Hemanshu beat a very strong team in their first match together and looked like a No. 1 doubles team. They broke late and Vesko served a strong game to close it out," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "Hunter and Jared also played very well in their first match together and gave us an early point to get us on the board and some momentum."

Bajoit earned a pair of 6-2 victories to defeat Vazquez in No. 1 singles. Lekovic was defeated by Holloway 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Anton Borovik earned a tough, three-set victory over Schmidt, winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. Steven Tibbetts started at No. 4 singles and defeated Urretia 6-1, 6-0. Roy bested Barrero 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles, and Daniel Haley picked up the 6-1, 6-0 win over Grubbs at No. 6 singles.

"Steven moved up a spot and performed well and Daniel got his first college dual win at No. 6," Porter says. "Anton found himself in the same position as the last match and reversed the outcome for a huge win at No. 3."

Southwestern improves to 2-3. The Pirates will travel to Orlando, Florida, from March 11-14, to play Case Western Reserve, Wesleyan (Conn.), Kenyon, and Rhodes.
