Hunter Bajoit Advances On Second Day of ITA Regional Championships

SAN ANTONIO — Southwestern's Hunter Bajoit picked up four wins on the second day of the ITA Regional Championships, advancing with two wins each in singles and doubles to lead the Pirates.

Bajoit breezed to a pair of 6-1, 6-1 singles victories over LeTourneau's Patrick Baney and Trinity University's Connor Whittington. Tomorrow morning, he will face Trinity's, Hao Nguyen.

"Hunter pulled out a tight first set before cruising in the second this morning," Southwestern men's tennis head coach Billy Porter says. "His second match was more straightforward, and I thought he played well."

Trinity proved too tough across the rest of the bracket, picking up wins in the rest of its matches against Southwestern opponents. After defeating McMurry's Chase Daniell 6-4, 6-0, Southwestern freshman Jared Burton met the region's top-ranked player, Cameron Krimbill of Trinity, losing 6-3, 6-1.

Anton Borovik bested the University of Texas at Dallas's John Edwards 6-4, 6-2, but lost to Concordia's Josh Bode 6-1, 6-3. Max Pearson fell to Trinity's Christian Settles 6-2, 7-6 (7) in the second round, while the University of Texas at Dallas's Aryan Sharma defeated Carlos Esteban Rodero in three sets (6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-8).

Freshman Daniel Haley was defeated by Trinity's Cameron Goldstein 6-2, 6-4, and Steven Tibbetts lost to Trinity's Alessio Azzalini 6-1, 6-1.

After defeating Trinity's Dalton Locke, freshman Oscar Roy lost to Azzalni 6-1, 6-3.

In the consolation bracket, Hemanshu Rambojun won both of his matches, defeating East Texas Baptist's Christian Dubec, and McMurry's Reid Smith. He'll face University of Texas at Dallas's Carlos De Leon tomorrow.

In doubles, Anton Borovik and Daniel Haley lost to Trinity's Liao and Whittington, 8-3. Burton and Roy advanced past St. Thomas's Haas and Head, but lost to Trinity's Locke and Chang.

"Oscar Roy had himself a good day in both Singles and Doubles with Jared," Porter says. "They impressed as a team and he showed some real grit down a set and down 4-5 to break and ultimately win the match."

Ramobjun and Bajoit picked up where they left off two years ago as a doubles duo, picking up wins over Schreiner's Cervantes and Gallinar, and McMurry's Daniell and Smith. The pair will face LeTourneau's Vazquez and Grubbs tomorrow.

"Hemanshu and Hunter got tested twice today and were down late in their second match," Porter says. "They raised their energy along with their Tennis IQ and found a way to advance."
