Matthew Carr

Matthew Carr is in his fourth season as a coach for the Pirates football team and second season as the defensive line coach after coaching tight ends in his first season. Coach Carr has added Football Operations to his role with the Pirates in 2023. In 2022, Coach Carr oversaw All-ASC Second Team defensive lineman Maliq McDonald. 

Carr coached tight ends and punters at Taylor High School in Taylor, Texas, in 2018 and 2019, working with an all-state and all-district punter. Before that, Carr was a linebackers coach at Central Methodist University in 2017 and Waldorf University in 2016. He also coached at the USA Cam-Am Bowl in 2013 and 2014. 

Carr began coaching as a student-assistant at Blinn College from 2010 to 2013. He coached linebackers and the defensive line, where he helped players go to four-year schools with scholarships. Carr has also worked at several football camps for NCAA Division I programs, including the University of Alabama, Texas A&M University, and Texas State University.

Carr earned a bachelor of arts degree from Central Methodist University in 2019. He and his wife, Kelsey, reside in Taylor with their daughter Nolan.
