The Southwestern football team announced the addition of longtime Hendrickson High School Hawks head coach Chip Killian to its coaching staff in 2022. Killian will coach the linebackers again for the 2023 season as well as overseeing football operations for the Pirates. Alek Gomez earned All-ASC Third Team in honors as a linebacker in 2022 under Coach Killian. 

Killian retired from his post at Hendrickson High School after 16 years as its head coach, posting a 100-58 record and recently leading the Hawks to the state playoffs Elite 8 in 2017. 

He took over the Hendrickson football program in 2008 after the program compiled a 15-26 record in its first four years of existence. The Hawks went 10-4 in Killian’s first season. He led the team to two district championships, two regional championship games, and an undefeated regular season in 2013. 

Before Henderickson High School, Killian served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Cedar Park High School from 1998 to 2006. He also served as an assistant coach for Westwood High School in 1997 and an assistant coach at Florence High School from 1992 to 1997. 

Killian received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English from Texas Tech in 1988, his Certification in Secondary Education from Texas State in 1991, and his Master of Arts in Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine in 2015.
