SUWANEE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference will be represented by 18 student-athletes, 5 from Southwestern, at the 2012 NCAA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. The convention will run from Jan. 11-14 and will be held at the JW Marriott Indianapolis.
Southwestern University had 18 student-athletes inducted into the 2011 class of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Athletic Honor Society on Wednesday. This award is presented annually to juniors and seniors who have earned an athletic letter, carry a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or better and are community members in good standing.
SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announcex its Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll on Thursday for the 2011 spring term and 98 Southwestern student-athletes were recognized.
Juniors Lauren Zearfoss (pictured, left) and Taylor Turpin (pictured, right) were announced by the National Fastpitch Association as 2011 NFCA Division III All-Region selections. Zearfoss is the first Pirate to be named to the All-Region second team.
The Southwestern softball team faced a long, tough day of action on Saturday afternoon and were ultimately beat out of the SCAC Conference Tournament one game shy of the championship game.
Led by junior pitcher Lauren Zearfoss (Co Pitcher-of-the-Year & Newcomer-of-the-Year) and first-year designated player Kayla Irvin as All-SCAC First Team selections, the Southwestern Pirates had six players honored in this years' post season awards announced on Monday. Head Coach Angela Froboese earned Coach-of-the-Year honors for the third consecutive year.

Southwestern University closed up the regular season with a split with Millsaps on Sunday afternoon. Southwestern sits at 27-13 on the year and 13-3 in the conference, finishing in first place in the West.
The Southwestern Pirates softball team solidified their seed as the #1 team in the West at next weekend's SCAC Conference Tournament with a game one win over Millsaps on Saturday afternoon. SU took game one 2-0 and then fell 3-0 in game two to improve to 26-12 on the year and 12-2 in the SCAC. Millsaps moved to 16-21 and 9-5 on the afternoon.
On Tuesday, April 12, 2011 was Southwestern University’s thirteenth annual Student Leadership Banquet. Students are nominated by professors, coaches, and other staff members based on their leadership skills in everyday life on campus.

With a split on Saturday afternoon against Austin College the Southwestern softball team firmed up a spot in the SCAC Conference Championship. The Pirates won game one 6-0 and then fell 9-1 in five innings in game two.

Day two of the Southwestern/Trinity match-up didn’t disappoint as the two teams battled back and forth in game one with the Pirates edging out the Tigers and then pouring on seven runs in the third in game two for the 8-0 run-rule win.
The hyped match-up between Southwestern and Trinity on the softball diamond didn’t disappoint on Saturday afternoon. A run in the bottom of the seventh in game one and two runs in the sixth in game two lifted Southwestern to two wins, keeping their perfect SCAC record intact.
The SU softball team scored 31 runs and held the University of Dallas scoreless in their home double header on Saturday afternoon, exploding for a 16-0 win in game one and -0 win in game two. The wins improve the Pirates to 15-10 on the year while UD falls to 4-18.
Southwestern assistant softball coach Loryn Johnson was spotlighted on Our Sports Central by National Pro Fastpitch. Johnson was drafted by the Nashville Diamonds in 2010 after graduating from the University of Texas. She was a 2010 Rookie of the Year candidate and will continue her professional career this summer in the off season from Southwestern.
As the Southwestern softball team hits the middle of the season they continue to get stronger and took four games at Hendrix College over the weekend to start off SCAC Conference action 4-0. The wins improve the Pirates to 16-10 on the year.

ABILENE, Texas- The Southwestern softball team notched their first wins of the season, defeating Hardin-Simmons 3-2, 5-2 on Saturday. The wins improve SU to 2-4 on the season while HSU falls to 0-4 overall.
BELTON, Texas - Two multi-run fifth innings, one in each game, were the demise of the Southwestern softball team on Friday afternoon at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Crusaders scored five runs in the fifth to defeat SU 8-2 in game one and three in the game two to win 3-0.
SEGUIN, Texas - TLU threw a no-hitter in game one and piled on the runs in game two as Southwestern lost their season opener series against Texas Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates fell 2-0 in game one and 12-1 in the second game.
