Bauernschmitt raced in three meets during his first season at Southwestern. The first-year runner captured his personal best at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships posting a time of 31:41.4 in the 8k race. He also earned to top 50 finishes at the Alamo City Duals and at the UTSA Ricardo Romo Cross Country Classic. He also was named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll for his hard-work in the classroom.

Bauernschmitt was a two sport athlete for the Rockets.
Personal
Kyle is the son of Laurie Peterson and has two siblings, Corey Peterson and Jennifer McMeekin. He is majoring in biology with minors in Spanish and botany.
