Pirates fall at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday, 56-24

GOODWELL, Okla. – The Southwestern University football team dropped a 56-24 decision to Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday afternoon at Carl Wooten Field.

The Aggies (3-2), a Division II independent that rolled up 497 yards of total offense, scored on their first three possessions of the game to race out to a 21-0 lead. Shane Truelove threw for 215 yards and four touchdowns to pace Oklahoma Panhandle State on the day. Chris McClendon rushed 15 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

The Pirates (2-4) trailed 35-7 in the second quarter, but received a 37-yard field goal by Laith Tucker and a two-yard touchdown toss by Justin Pelt to Matt Gillen to trim the lead to 18 points at halftime.

The Aggies outscored Southwestern 21-7 in the second half to secure the win.

Bryan Hicks completed 19 of 33 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns. Gallen hauled in eight catches for a game-high 110 yards and two scores. Kenneth Wynn Jr. also caught five passes for 94 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown in the opening period.

The Pirates, who had 352 yards, will be back in action on Oct. 24 against Trinity. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
