Armijo Named SCAC Character & Community Athlete of the Week

BRIAN ARMIJO OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior on the men's cross country and track & field teams from Albuquerque, N.M., has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning December 11.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Brian has made a name for himself running for the Pirates. Most recently, he broke the school's cross-country record which has stood since 2006. He will be graduating from Southwestern with a Bio-Chemistry and Mathematics double major. Armijo makes the time to give back to a community that is equally important to him, Best Buddies.

Best Buddies' mission is to serve the intellectual and developmental (IDD) community by forming a lifelong connection between the organization and Alumni.

"I would like to foster a sustainable community that is able to expand upon the foundation that we've built so far," said Armijo.

Brian serves as the President of Southwestern's Best Buddy chapter, a position that was handed down to him from a previous XC/Track Athlete Alumni, Noah Hall.

Brian will leave Southwestern with his name etched in the record books, but he also has programs in place so that the Best Buddies chapter will continue to grow even without him as President.
