GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - In their inaugural season in the Southern Athletic Association, Southwestern Football came away with six SAA All-Conference awards, one second-team selection, and five honorable mentions.

Aleksander Gomez, the senior linebacker from McAllen, Texas, was named second-team all-conference for recording fifty-six tackles on the season. Gomez racked up twenty-three solo tackles with thirty-three assists, having his season-best nine tackles in the games against Cal Lutheran and Hendrix.

Senior defensive Jason Lund was named honorable mention defensive end, having forty-one tackles on the season with seven sacks and fifteen and a half tackles for loss. Lund also forced two fumbles in 2023 along with a blocked kick.

Senior offensive lineman Matthew Gomez was named honorable mention and played in every game for the Pirates this season. In a year that was plagued by injuries for the Pirates on the offensive front, Gomez was the mainstay and stabilized the Pirates line by playing every position on the line in one form or another.

Senior linebacker Blane Corekin was named honorable mention, logging fifty-four tackles in 2023 and tagged on five and a half tackles for loss for fourteen yards. Corekin recovered two fumbles along with one forced fumble.

Senior defensive end Maliq McDonald was named honorable mention for putting up thirty-one tackles on the year, including four sacks, and twelve tackles for loss for forty yards in 2023.

Samuel Johnson was the only non-senior to be named to the SAA All-Conference list, earning honorable mention honors as a tight end. Johnson gathered twenty-six receptions for 378 yards and one touchdown, averaging 14.5 yards per reception.
