Broussard named second-team all-region

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern University senior Justin Broussard was named D3football.com second-team All-South Region, the online publication announced in a release on Monday night.

Broussard, who earned third-team all-region honors a year ago, was tabbed SCAC Defensive Player of the Year last month. The Beaumont native also competed in the National Bowl last week and finished his career as a four-time, first-team all-conference selection.

The 6-foot-1, 235-pound defensive end tallied 60 tackles, including 20.5 for loss and 15.5 sacks during the 2016 season. He finished his career with 37 sacks, which is tied for second all-time in SCAC history. Broussard also set the conference's single-game mark with 5.5 sacks against Trinity on Oct. 15.

The Pirates posted a 7-3 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in league action en route to the SCAC title.
