Fierst, Broussard collect weekly conference honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Following the program's first-ever Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory, a pair of Southwestern football student-athletes were honored for their performance on the field. Luke Fierst was named special teams player of the week, while Justin Broussard was tabbed defensive player of the week, it was announced on Monday afternoon.

Fierst, a first-year placekicker from Kerrville, accumulated seven points in the 37-7 victory over Austin College on Saturday. Fierst kicked the longest field goal since the program was reinstated in 2013, connecting from 46 yards in the first quarter. Additionally, he tacked on four extra points.

Broussard, a senior defensive end out of Beaumont, anchored a Pirate defense that limited the 'Roos to a season-low 191 yards. The 6-foot-1, 235-pounder amassed a team-high seven tackles (six solos), including two for loss, and one sack.

The duo join Dylan Wilburn as SCAC Players of the Week honorees in the 2016 season. Wilburn was named offensive player of the week on Sept. 12, following his performance in Southwestern's win over McMurry.

The Pirates will hit the road this weekend, traveling to San Antonio to face Trinity in a conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
