THE GAME
The Pirates continue looking for their first win of 2013 as they welcome Trinity to Birkelbach Field. A rivalry that has stretched across the hardwood, diamond and pitch now bleeds into the gridiron in the first meeting between the two schools since 1941.
Both teams enter after heartbreaking losses a week ago as the Pirates could not post a late rally in their loss. The Tigers tough defeat came in the closing seconds as Millsaps hit a 33-yard field goal to knock off Trinity. Southwestern and Trinity have both entered a similar path through the first half of the season with a solid passing game, only six yards separate the schools. The Pirates average 256 yards per game while the Tigers average 250 yards passing per game proving that both secondary's will definitely be tested on Saturday.
THE SERIES
This will be the first meeting between Southwestern and Trinity since 1941. The Pirates hold a slim lead in the all-time series at 11-9-2 including taking a win over the Tigers in the last ever meeting with a 13-6 win.
THE COACHES
Joe Austin (Concordia-St. Paul '01)
Austin is in his fifth year as a head coach after spending the previous four seasons at Hanover College where he led the Panthers to back-to-back second place finishes in the HCAC. He was also the offensive coordinator at the University of Dubuque after spending time at Augsburg College and his alma mater, Concordia-St. Paul.
Steve Mohr (Denison (Ohio) '76)
Mohr has been one of the most successful coaches at the NCAA Division III level and entered the season tied for seventh in all-time victories among actives coaches. Since helping guide the Tigers to their first NCAA playoff appearance in 1994, Trinity has reached the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in 2002 and three national semifinal appearances in1998, 1999 and 2002. He also was named National Coach of the Year in 2002 and earned regional coach of the year five times with the latest coming in 2011.
STANDING STRONG
Defensive end Justin Broussard has continued to put up impressive numbers not just for a first-year player, but for all-conference worthy numbers. Broussard leads the SCAC with 6 sacks which also rank in the top 20 in the nation.
HOW SMITH FOUND HIS GROOVE
After settling down, quarterback Dante Smith was able to throw for over 300 yards for the first time this season. Smith threw for three touchdowns for the second time this year, as he crossed the 1,000 yard mark on the year and ranks second in the SCAC in total offense behind TLU's Brent Peavy.
JUST ANOTHER POW HONOR
For the fourth time this season the Pirates were honored with a Player of the Week honor. Punter Michael Erwin nabbed accolades after averaging 41.4 yards per punt with three punts inside the 20-yard line. Erwin joins Colten Shea – who earned Offensive honors twice – and Tyler Frisby who was named defensive player of the week during week two.

Even facing double teams through the middle portion of the schedule, Colten Shea continues to be one of the SCAC and nation's top receivers. Shea ranks 12th in NCAA III in receiving yards averaging 99.2 yards per game as he sits just five yards shy of breaking the 600 yard mark.
A WIN FOR THE PIRATES…
A win for the Pirates would give Southwestern its first win of 2013 and improve in the all-time series 12-10-2 … Southwestern would win its first home game of the season and first since 1950 … it would make the Pirates 155-209-35 all-time
A LOSS FOR THE PIRATES…
A loss would be the Pirates seventh of the season and move their record to 0-7 … it would even the all-time series with the Tigers at 11-11-2 … It would also make the Pirates 154-210-35 all-time
A LOOK AHEAD …
Southwestern heads into its bye week before finishing the final home game of 2013 with a Homecoming matchup with Austin College … The meeting with the 'Roos will count as an official conference meeting as the game in Sherman was not the official SCAC game … The Pirates will close the regular season on the road at Trinity as the game will count in the SCAC standings … The final road game of 2013 will also see the Pirates travel to Virginia (Nov. 16) to take on NCAA III newcomer Southern Virginia
PIRATE WALK
The Pirate football team will make their weekly walk through the designated tailgating area two hours prior to kickoff for each home game. Head Coach Joe Austin and the team will continue from the west end of the tailgating area to the locker room area. Fans are encouraged to gather along this area to wish the Pirates 'Good Luck' in their upcoming game.
GAME DAY TICKETS
Tickets will be sold at the Georgetown ISD Stadium for $8 per person. Children 2 years old and younger do not need a ticket. Seating will begin 90 minutes prior to kick-off for each home game. ALL tickets will be open for Southwestern football games. The gate located at the west entrance under the press box will be the only pass gate for football parents with passes, credentialed media members and VIP passes.
TAILGATING INFO
Socialize with friends prior to each home game at the Georgetown ISD Stadium parking lot in the designated tailgating area. Tailgating will begin at noon for 7 p.m. kick-off and 8 a.m. for 1 p.m. kick-off at each home game. Official tailgating policies can be found here.
One tailgate spot is $10 (or two for $15) - cash only please - and can be reserved on a first come, first served basis. Each tailgater must have a game day ticket, which can be purchased upon arrival for tailgating.
