MEN AND WOMEN FINISH UP AT SCAC TRACK AND FIELD TOURNAMENT

The Southwestern University men's and women's track and field teams completed the SCAC Championships with an eighth and seventh place finish respectively.

Jennifer Tindle, Tami Warner and Avery Sheppard had the best finishes of the day for the Pirates. Tindle took third in the triple jump with a 10.88 m jump while Warner took third in the 800 meter dash in a time of 2:20.25 and Sheppard placed third in the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 49.43, just .05 seconds out of first place.

Sheppard also took fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.09. The women's 4x100 meter relay finished in fifth place at 52.08 while Daniel Rudd captured sixth in the 10000 m run in a time of 34:12.34.

First year Nekia Tharps had a solid day in various events as well taking sixth in the 100 meter dash (13.56) and 100 m hurdles (16.59) and then ninth in the long jump (4.82m).

Other notable finishes for Southwestern were Taylin Eckols' seventh place finish in the women's javelin (27.28m), Kelly Myers' taking ninth in the women's discuss (28.66m) and Kristin Lahaie's tenth place finish in the 400 meter dash.

All in all, Southwestern saw five new school records set (Warner, Sheppard, Eckols, Lozano, Myers) on the day and three All-Conference performances (Warner, Sheppard, and Tindle)
