Rodney James "Captain" Kidd (1902-1987) was an outstanding athlete at Southwestern from 1921 to 1925, and served as faculty member, administrator, and coach from 1927 to 1938. He was state athletic director and director general of the University Interscholastic League from 1938 to 1968. Kidd was named Austin's Most Worthy Citizen in 1957 and Southwestern University's Distinguished Alumnus in 1966. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his work in Scouting. He was the author of several books and had a devoted career in service to the youth of Texas.
