Hall of Fame Induction Criteria 

 

The purpose of the Southwestern University Athletic Hall of Fame is to honor those persons who have made significant contributions in the field of athletics at Southwestern University.  As athletes, associates, students, coaches and administrators, these persons will have had outstanding careers and have served as ambassadors for the ideals of intercollegiate athletics and the high standards of Southwestern University.  Inductees will have attained success of a stature worthy of being recognized as some of the finest contributors to the Southwestern athletic tradition and as persons whose athletic careers extended to the highest levels that were appropriate for the sport and the time period.

REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTIONS

1.   Recipients of the Southwestern University Athletics Hall of Fame Award shall be limited to: 

  • (a) Athletes
  • (b) Coaches
  • (c) Athletic Directors
  • (d) Associates
  • (e) Teams

Athletes

  1. Shall have demonstrated outstanding athletic performance in a recognized varsity Southwestern University sports program.
  2. Shall have exhibited sportsmanship and integrity.
  3. Shall have completed his/her intercollegiate participation ten (10) years prior to induction.
  4. Shall have participated in a recognized varsity sport while at Southwestern University a minimum of one year.
  5. Shall be a person of such integrity and character that Southwestern University’s Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Students take pride in and are inspired by his/her recognition.

Coaches

  1. Shall have completed his/her coaching service with the Athletic Department at Southwestern University at least three (3) years prior to induction.
  2. Shall be a person of such integrity and character that Southwestern University Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Students take pride in and are inspired by his/her recognition.
  3. Shall have exhibited the sportsmanship, character, and integrity in keeping with the Southwestern University tradition. 

Director of Athletics and Administrators

  1. Shall have completed his/her administrative service with the Athletic Department at Southwestern University at least three (3) years prior to induction.
  2. Shall be a person of such integrity and character that Southwestern University Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Students take pride in and are inspired by his/her recognition.
  3. Shall have exhibited the sportsmanship, character, and integrity in keeping with the Southwestern University tradition.

Associates

  1. Shall be a person who has participated in the advancement of Athletics at Southwestern University and has demonstrated loyalty, dedication, and service to Southwestern University.
  2. Shall be a person of such integrity and character that Southwestern University’s Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Students take pride in and are inspired by his/her recognition. 

Teams

    1. Shall have brought distinction to the university through performance on the national championship level and/or through significant seasonal accomplishments.
    2. Shall have completed the specific year of recognition five (5) years prior to induction.
    3. Shall be persons of such integrity and character that Southwestern University’s Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Students take pride in and are inspired by their recognition 

 

  1. Not more than three (3) individuals (Athletes, Coaches, Athletic Directors, and Associates total) and one (1) team shall be selected in any given year.  No more than one (1) of the recipients shall be deceased at selection time.  No more than one (1) coach or athletic director and one (1) associate may be selected in a given year. 
  2. Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies will only occur during even-numbered years (e.g. 2018, etc.)
