Chester Lee "Chatter" Allen was a distinguished quarterback and captain of the football team, lettering from 1928 to 1932. As a coach and athletic director, he made headlines for 40 years and never had a losing season. In 1954, he received national recognition when he refused to play any school that discriminated against Corpus Christi's racially integrated teams. Allen introduced the Little State Track and Field meet in Corpus Christi in 1945. He was elected to the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 1973, and in 1976 received the Citation of Merit from the Alumni Association of Southwestern University.
