Dr. Benavides joined the Southwestern Athletic Training Staff in January 1992.

After completing his Master's Degree at Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, LA (1885), Dr. Benavides worked as the Athletic Trainer at Corpus Christi ISD primarily at Foy H. Moody H.S.  In 1987, Dr. Benavides worked as the Athletic Trainer at Newman-Smith H.S. in Carrollton.  While at Newman-Smith, he developed an athletic training curriculum and taught Health, PE and CPR. At Southwestern, he developed, implemented and attained CAAHEP/CAATE Accreditation in 2000 and 2004 for the Athletic Training Education Program.

Miguel currently resides in Georgetown with his wife Elma and their five children.
