GEORGETOWN, Texas - With a 1-0 win over the University of Dallas, the Trinity Tigers repeated as SCAC Conference Champions to earn the automatic bid into the national tournament.

Trinity tested the waters from the opening whistle and had their first shot clang off the left post, signaling their dominance early in the contest. Dallas settled into the game and were able to coordinate some strong attacks in the middle of the half, but they were ultimately fruitless as the game remained 0-0 through the halfway mark.

Dallas’ defense was strong, fending off the numerous attacks at goal while Brigid Hasson made outstanding diving saves to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard. As the clock ticked down, the Crusaders became more aggressive, but the Trinity defensive line had the answer for every attack and the half closed scoreless.

The second half started very balanced and Trinity had a great look at goal. As the ball bounced around in the box a Crusader defender had an inadvertent hand ball, awarding Trinity a penalty kick with just under 29 minutes to play.

Shelby Guenthardt took the kick and drilled a shot toward the right post. Hasson dove the same direction and made a fantastic diving save to keep the game scoreless.

Trinity continued to press and kept the ball in the attacking third of the field for the next 10 minutes and got the goal they had been desperately searching for as Jennifer White came out of the backfield to find Guenthardt in front of the box. Guenthardt couldn’t get a solid first touch but her second was gold as the ball went into the back of the net for a Tiger 1-0 lead with 14 minutes to play.

With a few additional good looks at goal the game would come to a close with Trinity on top 1-0. TU led 19-3 in shots and 8-0 in corner kicks.

Offensive Most Valuable Player Guenthardt scored the only goal of the match while Defensive Most Valuable Player Hasson from Dallas posted eight saves in the match.

The University of Dallas closes out the year at 12-8-1 while Trinity improves to 14-1-2. The Tigers will advance to the NCAA National Tournament as the winner of the automatic bid.
