Southwestern Women's Tennis got a huge win under their belt on Sunday, February 26, 2023. The Southwestern Women's Tennis team defeated California Tech 6-3, after Taylor Despriet clinched at line four.

Following doubles, the Pirates were down 1-2. The doubles point that the Pirates achieved was won by Senior Emma Kesterson and Sophomore Captain Erika Synoski. Synoski and Kesterson have incredible natural chemistry on court and cruised through their match, winning 8-0. Doubles put the Pirates down 1-2, turning everyone's attention to the importance of the singles matches.

Emma Kesterson had a quick and outstanding win at line two. She faced a difficult opponent but remained calm and got ahead quickly with high energy. Kesterson's speedy win put the score at 2-2 and raised the energy on every court around her. The win at line two was followed by a win at line three by Junior Sydney Wahl. Wahl fought hard and stayed very positive getting the third point for the Pirates.

The last two courts on were Lydia Lee and Taylor Despriet, both in full third sets. Thankfully, Despriet clinched 6-4 in the third set. Coach Porter praised Taylor Despriet's clinch at line four for the Pirates, saying, "The level of mental and physical toughness displayed by us in this match was second to none." Following Despriet's win, the team was up 5-3. Lydia Lee's opponent, unfortunately, had to default and put the Pirates up 6-3.

This was a major win for the Pirates. The Conference Tournament will be held here at Southwestern University on April 28-30, at the Pirates' home courts! Mark your calendars!
