
Southwestern Women's Tennis got a huge win under their belt on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The Southwestern Women's Tennis team defeated Colby College, 6-3.
In the first three matches of doubles, Seniors Taylor Despriet and Alli Ziehm faced some adversity, but were able to get the win at line two doubles. Senior Emma Kesterson and Sophomore Erika Synoski had natural chemistry on the court, getting an 8-2 win at line three.
Doubles put the Pirates up 2-1, turning everyone's attention to the importance of the singles matches.
Nina Mitrofanova had a good win at line one. She faced a difficult opponent but remained calm and got ahead in the second set quickly after having a battle during the first set. Mitrofavnova's opponent was fighting back; however, she was able to close the match, putting the Pirates up 3-1. Following Mitrofanova's win, Taylor Despriet won a three set match at line four, putting the Pirates ahead, 4-2. Sophomore Lydia Lee won her match at line five singles, clinching for the Pirates. Lee won her match 6-4, 7-6.
This was a major win for the Pirates'. This win gave the Pirates some confidence to build on as the conference is approaching. The Conference Tournament will be held here at Southwestern University on April 28-30, at the Pirates' home courts!
