Women's Tennis Defeats Schreiner

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The No. 16-ranked Southwestern women's tennis team posted its fourth consecutive shutout victory against a conference opponent, defeating the Schreiner Mountaineers 9-0.

Nina Mitrofanova and Lydia Lee scored an 8-4 win over Hannah Reyna and Victoria Morales at No. 1 doubles. Lauren Chisholm and Sydney Wahl won 8-3 against Blair Drought-Villarreal and Katelyn Ruiz at No. 2 doubles, and Alli Ziehm and Chandler Vrba defeated Stefanie Madamba and Rachel Rompel 8-1, securing the doubles sweep.

"Chandler slid into the doubles lineup today and played good tennis with Alli, as did Sydney and Lauren pairing together today," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says.

Mitrofanova carried the momentum over into a 6-1, 6-0 win over Reyna at No. 1 singles, and Emma Kesterson, Ziehm, and Lee all posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 2, 5, and 6 singles.

Kesterson defeated Morales, Ziehm bested Rompel, and Lee won against Madamba.

"Lydia defended well in singles today and did a good job waiting for balls to be in her strike zone while keeping her feet moving," Porter says. "Emma played very solid today, and I thought she moved exceptionally well. In addition, she served at a high percentage which helped her along the way."

Wahl defeated Drought-Villarreal 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Chisholm bested Ruiz 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

Southwestern improves to 12-3. The Pirates will host St. Mary's University on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
