MARSHALL, Texas — Esther Bowers reached 100 career wins, and the Southwestern women's tennis team defeated East Texas Baptist University 9-0.

Sydney Wahl and Emma Kesterson defeated Faith Kirk and Kesley Roberts 8-0 in No. 3 doubles. Esther Bowers and Nina Mitrofanova closed doubles with an 8-3 win over Elisa Kendall and Maddi Davis in No. 1 doubles.

"Another match and another three teams that had never played together for doubles today," head coach Billy Porter said. "They continue to adjust to the changes well as we are looking for the best combinations possible."

Sydney Wahl opened singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ybarra in the No. 5 position. Nina Elez clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Corrine Hall in No. 4 singles to clinch. Emma Kesterson defeated Kesley Roberts in 6-0, 6-0 straight sets in No. 3 singles. Bowers defeated Schenck 6-2, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Mitrofanova bested Kendall in No. 1 singles, and Alli Ziehm won 6-1, 6-1 over Gabbi Hamerbach.

"Nina Mitrofanova had a huge win in a repeat from the 2019 ITA Regional Final. It was fun to watch two All-Americans battle it out at No. 1," Porter said. "Alli worked through some ups and downs with her footwork and found a way to get us a win to complete the shutout."

Southwestern improves to 12-4 with the win. The Pirates will host Sul Ross State on Friday, April 16. They'll make the trip to San Antonio to face Trinity on Saturday, April 17.
