GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern women's tennis team was swept in doubles on the way to a 6-3 loss to the NCAA Division II Texas A&M Kingsville University Javelinas.

Taylor Despriet and Nina Mitrofanova opened the match with an 8-3 loss to Maya Donko and Luara Montalvo in No. 1 doubles, followed by Allie Ziehm and Mariana Quetzeri falling 8-5 to Milou Ter Morsche and Jana Knaab in No. 3 doubles. Esther Bowers and Nina Elez were defeated by Alessa Maier and Raina Zaffar in No. 2 doubles.

"We gave doubles away, and there is no way we should have gone down 0-3," head coach Billy Porter said. "Alli and Esther were standouts in Doubles."

Mitrofanova, Taylor Despriet, and Nina Elez opened with consecutive losses in No. 1, 4, and 3 singles. Sydney Wahl put the Pirates on the board with a 7-6, 6-0 victory in No. 5 singles. Esther Bowers dropped her match in No. 2 singles, and Allie Ziehm continued her winning ways with a 7-5, 6-4 victory in No. 6 singles.

"Sydney played through some pain today but was able to find a way to get us a win at 5," Porter said. "Alli continues to be a spark for us at 6 and played a great game at 5-4 in the second set to break and get the win."
