GEORGETOWN, Texas — Nina Elez continued her tear through higher division opponents, and the Southwestern women's tennis team scored two big victories in doubles to propel the team to a 6-3 victory over the NCAA Division I Prairie View Panthers.

The Panthers finally got a point with an 8-4 victory in No. 1 doubles.

"Our doubles at two and there were much improved," head coach Billy Porter said. "We got two key points there going into singles."

Prairie View A&M evened the score at 3-3 with victories in No. 1 and 2 singles, but Emma Kesterson answered with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Mahogani Green in No. 3 singles. Sydney Wahl put the Pirates up two with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Anette Lira in No. 6 singles, and Taylor Despriet clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win in No. 5 singles.

Nina Elez picked up another win at No. 4 singles, defeating Islas Medina in three sets (6-7, 6-3, 10-5).

"Taylor was phenomenal tonight. She battled the up and down emotions and found a way to get us the clinch," Porter said. "Nina Elez got her fourth win over a Division I opponent in nine days as she continues to be a rock for us at No. 4 singles."

Southwestern improved to 5-2. The Pirates will host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday, March 11, then travel to play Colorado College on Saturday, March 13.
