Women's Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team, Nine Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University women's tennis team earned the 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award, while nine Pirates earned ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades. The ITA announced the honors on Tuesday.

Women's tennis marked their sixth year making the ITA All-Academic Team. For the 2020 season,  Isabel Candelario, Mary CardoneEmma KestersonAlli ZiehmMariana QuetzeriNina MitrofanovaNina ElezChandler Vrba and Meeshti Shethia collected ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the 2019-20 academic year. Additionally, in order for a team to garner ITA All-Academic Team honors, a program must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above for 2019-20.

Southwestern was one of 175 Division III women's tennis teams to receive All-Academic Team distinction, while the nine individual Pirates were part of 1058 student-athletes recognized for their academic achievements.
