GEORGETOWN, Texas – The No. 22-ranked Southwestern University Pirates women's tennis team made quick work of LeTourneau, winning 6-0 in the first of two matches today.

Mary Cardone and Emma Kesterson opened the day with an 8-1 win in No. 2 doubles, putting the Pirates on the board. Alli Ziehm and Mariana Quetzeri followed with a win in No. 3 doubles, defeating Samantha Trevino and Sierra Giesen 8-1.

Esther Bowers and Nina Mitrofanova worked past early struggles to give the Pirates a doubles sweep with an 8-6 victory over Maddison Brackenreg and Bailey Deatherage in the No. 1 spot.

"Esther and Nina struggled, not playing great tennis, but they found a way to pull it out and I thought Esther played a big part in that," Head Coach Billy Porter said.

Cecile Wilde stepped into the No. 2 spot in singles and overpowered Samantha Trevino with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Chandler Vrba followed with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Summer Apostalo in No. 4 singles to clinch the match. Meeshti Shethia was the final Pirate to finish, defeating Deatherage 6-0, 6-3.

"Mimi played an exceptional first set before facing a much tougher second set," Porter said. "She had a huge hold at 4-3 to help stay ahead and seal the match.

"Chandler played very smart and creative tennis today by dictating well off of her forehand and defended great from the backhand side."

The Pirates would go on to defeat McMurry later in the day to bring their record to 6-1 on the season. Southwestern will travel to Seguin on Friday, March 6 to play Texas Lutheran University.
