Women's Golf Finishes Day in First at SCAC Championships

BLANCO, Texas — Fresh off their win at the West Region Invitational, Southwestern women's golf opened SCAC Women's Championship with another strong performance, finishing the day in first place after one round of play with a score of 319. 

Southwestern placed all five of its golfers in the top 15, including three in the top 10. Madison Goldberg paced the Pirates with a 72, finishing the day in first place with a six-stroke lead over Trinity University's Kiona Hsiu. Goldberg led the field in made pars (12), birdies (three), and Par 4 and Par 5 scoring. 

Katherine Montgomery also had three birdies on the first day, scoring an 81 to finish in sixth. Ryleigh Erickson scored an 82 and is tied for seventh. Madison Miller shot an 84 and ended the day tied for 11th, while Linsey Garza is in 15th with an 87. 

Trinity sits just one stroke behind Southwestern, placing three in the top five to score a 320. St. Thomas is in third with a score of 336, followed by Schreiner at 402 and Centenary at 424. 

The SCAC Championships will conclude tomorrow at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
