Women's Golf Ends Golfweek Invitational in 11th Place

DESTIN, Fla. — The Southwestern University Pirates women's golf team finished 11th at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational, dropping three places after its worst round of the event at 325 to finish with a combined score of 962. 

Carnegie Mellon opened and closed the competition in first place, posting scores of 309, 296, and 303 for a combined score of 908, finishing 44 over par.

Southwestern opened strong, posting a 314 in the first round in a tie for second place but could not sustain its pace.

Madison Goldberg was the highest-finishing Pirate with a score of 231 after shooting 79 in each of the last two rounds, finishing tied for 13th. She opened on Hole 6 and double-bogeyed on 9, picking up five more bogeys and finishing the rest at par. 

The Pirates were solid, picking up the second-most Pars with 151 to Carnegie Mellon's 161, led by Goldberg's 36, which was the fourth most among individuals. She also finished with a team-high five birdies. 

Linsey Garza improved in each of the three rounds, posting the Pirates' best third-round score with 78 after scoring an 85 and 80 to open the competition. Garza had six bogeys and otherwise made par, scoring a three-day total of 243 to finish tied for 46th. 

Emily Campbell rebounded to shave eight strokes off her second-day score, finishing with a combined score of 247, tied for 55th. Leilani McDaniel and Sarah Lucido each scored 87 with McDaniel ending at 250 for a tie in 62nd place and Lucido scoring a 252 to tie for 67th. 

The Golfweek Fall Invitational concludes the fall portion of the Pirates' schedule.
