TYLER, Texas - After last week's NCAA Fall Preview got washed out, the Southwestern University women's golf team opened their 2017-18 season at the Al Jones, Jr. Memorial, shooting a 309 (+21) to lead the field after the first round of play.
Host Texas-Tyler is in second after a score of 316 (+28) followed by Hardin-Simmons in third with a score of 318 (+30). Rounding out the top five was Schreiner in fourth at 329 (+41) and Cal Lutheran at 332 (+44).
The Pirates led the way in Par 4 and Par 5 scoring at +9 nad +6 while also leading the way in birdies with nine in the round.
Junior Valentina Olivieri-Puentes is currently tied for the elad with a first round score of 75 (+3). Olivieri-Puentes placed second in Pars on the afternoon with 13. Junior Emily Campbell is tied for third after shooting a 76 (+4) on the day.
Sophomore Leilani McDaniel sits in 11th after shooting a 78 (+6) while Paige Greenan shot an 80 (+8) to sit in 14th. Rounding out the scorers was junior Katie Dyo after shooting an 81 (+9) in the round.
Southwestern will look to pick up their first win of the season as they compete in the final round tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM.
