Pirate women finish 8th in tough DePauw Classic field

CLAYTON, Ind. – The Southwestern University women's golf team battled to an eighth place finish Sunday to close out the DePauw Small College Classic at Deer Creek Golf Club.

Bernice Leonard showed consistency for the Pirates with back-to-back round of 81-81 to finish at 162 for the tournament. The scorecard was good for a 12th place finish as she was just six strokes behind the individual champions, Connie Zhou and Olivia Lugar both of Washington University-St. Louis.

Keeley Coburn also earned a top 20 finish as she improved on day two with an 80 after a first round 85. Coburn was just three shots behind Leonard as she tied for 17th.

As a team the Pirates posted a score of 675 to finish eighth as Washington-St. Louis had two individual champions, as the tournament saw four individuals tie for the lead. Washington finished at 641 while Carthage College finished at 645 and Wittenberg rounded out a crowded top three with a 647.

Lauren Boone carded a 169 to finish tied for 29th as Alexis Gonzalez concluded the scoring for the Pirates with a 179.
