Southwestern Athletics Welcome the Hall of Fame Class of 2024

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - On February 3rd, 2024 the Southwestern University Athletic Department invited two former Pirate athletes and one former head coach to the Hall of Fame Luncheon Ceremony in the McCombs Ballroom inside of the Red and Charline McCombs Center on the campus of Southwestern University. Derek Kempf, Samantha Lingamfelter and Hannah Long were the three inductees that culminated the Southwestern Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024. 

The purpose of the Southwestern University Athletic Hall of Fame is to honor the people who have made significant contributions in the field of athletics at Southwestern University. 

As athletes, associates, students, coaches and administrators, these persons will have had outstanding careers and have served as ambassadors for the ideals of intercollegiate athletics and the high standards of Southwestern University. Inductees will have attained success of a stature worthy of being recognized as some of the finest contributors to the Southwestern athletic tradition and as persons whose athletic careers extended to the highest levels that were appropriate for the sport and the time period.

Southwestern University Athletics is proud to induct the Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

The Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Inductees:

  • Derek Kempf '88 - Baseball
  • Samantha Lingamfelter '10 - Volleyball
  • Head Coach Hannah Long 2004 - 2015 (Volleyball)

Hall of Fame Induction Criteria

Derek Kempf '88 came to Southwestern from Castroville, Texas, in the fall of 1984. His offensive prowess helped lift the baseball program to an overall record of 189-97 during his career. At the time of his induction into the Southwestern Hall of Fame, Kempf, a .380 career hitter, ranked in the top ten in twelve career statistical categories.  Samantha Lingamfelter '10 arrived at Southwestern in the fall of 2006 from New Braunfels, Texas. Lingamfelter finished with a career total of 2,856 digs, ranking her at the top of Southwestern's records and second-most in SCAC history. In 2009, she was named captain and led her team to the national tournament while earning third-team All-American honors in the process.  Hannah Long joined the Southwestern Athletic Department in 2004 as a first-time head coach to lead the volleyball program. In her twelve years at Southwestern, Long led the program to a 362-94 overall record, which included three conference championships in 2005, 2009, and 2015. Long elevated the Pirates to a Top 25 NCAA Division III program, producing nine AVCA All-Americans. Watch her induction video to learn more about Hannah Long's career as a Pirate.
