GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern University welcomed four new staff members in August in preparation for the 2017-18 academic year. Assistant coaches in women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse, men's soccer, and swimming & diving joined the ranks.
HANNAH KHIN - WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Khin comes to Southwestern after three seasons as the assistant coach at Occidental College where she helped guide the Tigers to a 30-24 record in three years and an NCAA tournament bid in 2015. She also served as recruiting coordinator and ran the strength and conditioning programming.
A 2013 graduate of Goucher College in Baltimore, MD, Khin was a four-year starting midfielder and top-scorer for the Gophers and was named team captain her senior year. She ranks fifth all-time in career goals (204) and was a four-time Landmark All-Conference selection. In 2013, Khin was an IWLCA All-Region selection.
Khin has a B.A in psychology from Goucher and earned her master's degree in development psychopathology from Durham University (UK). While pursuring her master's degree she led the team to the 2014 Northern Premier League championship and was voted MVP by her teammates.
MICHAEL COLE - MEN'S SOCCER
Cole is a recent graduate of of Fort Hays State University where he was a three-time All-MIAA selection including earning first team honors in 2014. He also earned All-Central Region First Team honors for the Tigers in 2014 after being a second team selection in his first two seasons.
Cole is no stranger to Central Texas, graduating from Rouse High School in 2012, and has been an assistant coach for the competitive Lonestar Soccer Club.
MIKE MARKLAND - MEN'S LACROSSE
Markland comes to Southwestern after one season at Mars Hill as a volunteer assistant, working with the goalies and scout team offense.
Prior to Mars Hill, Markland was the assistant coach at Brevard College for two seasons. Markland helped the Tornados record eight wins and its first appearance in the South Atlantic Conference Championship. Under the guidance of Markland, then-goal keeper Andy Reilly was named South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week three times while leading the conference in total saves (217) on the third-highest percentage (53.7). Markland was then elevated to interim head coach in December of 2014 and helped guide two players to All-SAC honors in the 2015 season.
Markland, an Alexandria, Virginia native, was a goalie for the nationally-ranked lacrosse team at Pfeiffer University and earned academic all-conference honors. He began his coaching career at Fort Mill High School as the top assistant, winning at state championship in 2014.
Markland graduated from Pfeiffer University in 2012 with a degree in Sport Management.
BRAD DUNN - MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
Dunn comes to Southwestern with twenty years of swimming experience and thirteen years of coaching experience at many levels of the sport.
He grew up swimming for club teams in Bridgetown, Barbados; Mexico City, Mexico; and Williamsburg, Virginia. Upon high school graduation he attended the University of Mary Washington where he earned a B.A. in Spanish and was a member of the swimming program for all four years.
While at Mary Washington, Brad was part of four conference championship winning teams, while also earning All-Conference honors each of the four years himself. Individually, he held conference records in the 1000 and 1650 yard freestyles and won 6 individual titles. He also was part of two conference record setting relays, the 400 and 800 yard freestyle relays. In 2015, Brad was named to the Capital Athletic Conference Silver Anniversary Team.
After college, Brad spent two years working in the Washington, DC area in multiple swimming fields. He coached club swimming with Nation's Capital Swim Club, taught stroke enhancement at the Tom Dolan Swim School, and was a Head Women's High School Swimming Coach.
In 2013 Brad moved to Memphis, TN where he began work as the Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach for Rhodes College. While at Rhodes, Brad assisted in leading the college to its first women's conference title as well as multiple new team records. In 2015 Brad began pursuing his Masters of Business Administration and working in business in the Memphis area while still volunteering as a coach for the Rhodes program.
Brad is eager to bring his swimming and coaching background to Southwestern and to continue building on the great momentum of the program.
