LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that 533 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 season including Southwestern University. This number once again breaks the previous year's total of 481 and sets a new all-time high for this award.
GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern University announced the 2012 Dr. Tex Kassen and Dr. Carla Lowry Athlete-of-the-Year awards which denote the top male and female athlete at Southwestern for that given school year. Senior volleyball setter Christina Nicholls and sophomore men’s track & field athlete Daniel Tuttle were chosen among numerous candidates as this year’s recipients of the esteemed award.

Christina Nicholls, a senior setter from Austin, Texas, was selected as First Team All-America and is the first Pirate to receive the honor since SU became an NCAA Division III institution.
Senior Christina Nicholls and junior Rachel Thibodeau were selected to the AVCA All-South Region First Team while Lindsay Thompson earned Honorable Mention honors for the Southwestern Pirates.
Southwestern jumped out to early leads in each set but Chapman pounced back to defeat the Pirates 3-1 in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The loss ends SU's season at 30-4.

The 2011 Capital One Academic All-District ® Volleyball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs in 2011. Southwestern junior, Rachel Thibodeau, was selected to the First Team.

Nicholls, a 5'8" setter, led the Pirates to four wins and their own home tournament last weekend. She was named to the All-Tournament Team and MVP of the event. At 28-2, Southwestern is currently in the middle of a 19-match win streak.
After a 4-0 weekend to close out the regular season the Southwestern volleyball team moved up one spot to sixth place in the latest AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll out Tuesday. The #6 ranking is the highest yet for the Pirates under Coach Hannah Long.

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The #7 Pirates closed out the SCAC West Divisional #2 with two wins to remain unbeaten, 14-0, in conference play, beating the University of Dallas 3-0 before winning 3-2 over Trinity in a gutsy nightcap.

Southwestern volleyball continued their impressive play with four wins at the SCAC West/Central Divisional #1 over the weekend including triumphing 3-0 in a prolonged battle with #14 Colorado College. The wins improve the #9 nationally-ranked Pirates to 17-2 on the year and 7-0 in the SCAC.
