Pirates Wrap Up Non-Conference Play With Three Matches In Two Days

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Women's Tennis traveled to Seguin, TX for a double-header versus Texas Lutheran and Our Lady of the Lake on Friday. The Pirates took the conference win over Texas Lutheran earlier in the day, and gave themselves an extra test against Our Lady of the Lake from the NAIA in the evening. The Pirates stepped up to the challenge, with the women earning a 5-2 win. On a quick turnaround, the Pirates hosted UC Santa Cruz on Saturday morning, but fell to the Slugs 1-8. 

VERSUS Texas Lutheran

  • The No. 40 women's tennis team was almost perfect in doubles, dropping just one game across the three matches. Valeria Gracia and Kimberly Duncan won 8-0 at 3 doubles, and both went on to win 6-0, 6-0 in singles at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
  • Erika Synoski and Sydney Wahl won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, with Synoski (6-3, 6-0 at No. 2) and Wahl (6-1, 6-0 at No. 3) adding strong efforts in singles.
  • Daryl Locke also swept the No. 1 lines, winning 6-1, 6-1 in singles and 8-1 in doubles with Mary Young.

VERSUS Our Lady of the Lake

  • Young and Daryl Locke (6-4 at No. 1) and Wahl and Erika Synoski (6-3 at No. 2) had key doubles wins to give Southwestern a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
  • The women's tennis team had a pair of three-set singles wins to secure its win, as Sydney Wahl came back for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 in a gritty performance at the end of a long day.
  • Mary Young returned to the lineup in the No. 1 spot, and battled through a long three-setter for a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win.
  • Kimberly Duncan (6-1, 6-2) and Valeria Gracia (6-3, 6-2) had strong efforts at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively to set the Pirates up for the clinch. 

VERSUS UC Santa Cruz

  • Kimberly Duncan continued her strong play, providing the Pirate's with the lone point for the day, winning at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-3.

The Pirates will travel for their final conference match on the road against Trinity University on Friday, April 19th at 6:30 PM CDT.
