Women's Tennis Drops Game to Wesleyan in the Continued Match

Lake Nona, Florida- Southwestern Women's Tennis was defeated by Wesleyan in a continued match from March 13, 2023. This was an away match at the USTA National Campus. The Pirates put up a huge fight but fell to Wesleyan after a three part match. The conditions of the first day were unfavorable for both teams and the continuation of the matches on March 14, 2023, were on a different surface than the matches were started on. Finishing the matches on clay courts was a battle but the Pirates fought hard.

Doubles was played on March 13, 2023. The Pirates were down 0-3 after doubles but had some good performances. Taylor Despriet and Lauren Chisholm fought to the bitter end of their doubles match, losing 4-8. Emma Kesterson and Nina Mitrofanova also competed at line one doubles as hard as they could. The Pirates just did not quite control the net as much as they needed to.

The Pirates entered singles with their heads still high and ready to fight for every match. The energy was much higher in singles than in doubles, giving the Pirates some more positive energy!

Nina Mitrofanova battled at line one singles giving her opponent a run for her money. Although there were some discrepancies during the match, Mitrofanova kept her cool and was able to play some fabulous tennis. Sydney Wahl competed at line three singles, playing a solid, competitive match. Her opponent had some great hands at the net but Wahl was unbothered. While Wahl did not quite get the win, she competed at an extremely high level and played well!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Conference Tournament which will be held at your very own Southwestern University on April 28-30, at the Pirates' home courts!
