Women's Tennis Flawless In Doubleheader Against Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas — The Southwestern women's tennis team opened conference play with a pair of 9-0 wins over the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs at the Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center. 

Southwestern featured all three of its seniors in doubles for the first time this season, getting an 8-1 win from senior Chandler Vrba and Taylor Despriet over Kaitlyn Enloe and Haley Hoffman at no. 2 doubles. Seniors Sara Le and Meeshti Shethia scored an 8-0 victory over Kayleigh Gardner and Kara Bucey at no. 3 doubles. 

The Pirates featured an all-freshman team with Lauren Chisholm and Lydia Lee for the first time, scoring an 8-2 win over Elena Brancaleon and Paula Acosta at the top spot. 

Southwestern was dominant in singles, with Chisholm, Lee, Shethia, and Le scoring 6-0, 6-0 wins at no. 1, 2, 4, and 5 singles. Vrba defeated Gardner 6-1, 6-0 at no. 3 singles and Texas Lutheran forfeited no. 6 singles. 

Nina Mitrofanova returned to the lineup for the second match, joining Lee to lead Southwestern to a trio of 8-0 victories with a win over Brancaleon and Acosta. Chisholm and Emma Kesterson defeated Enloe and Hoffmann, and Sydney Wahl and Le bested Gardner and Bucey. 

Texas Lutheran's no. 1 and 4 singles retired after losing the first sets 6-0 and Bucey withdrew in a walkover at no. 6. Kesterson and Chisholm were perfect with 6-0, 6-0 wins at no. 2 and 3 singles. Vrba defeated Hoffmann 6-2, 6-0. 

Southwestern improves to 10-4 and will travel to face the University of St. Thomas tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in Houston.
