Seniors Shine In Women's Tennis Win Over UMHB

BELTON, Texas — The No. 14-ranked Southwestern women's tennis team scored a comfortable 9-0 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders, getting solid performances from its three seniors.

Nina Mitrofanova and Lydia Lee posted an 8-2 win for Southwestern over Chloe Norris and Brynn Harmsen at No. 1 doubles, Alli Ziehm and Emma Kesterson defeated Adrianna McElwain and Katy Beach 8-0 at No. 2, and Lauren Chisholm and Sara Le won 8-1 over Amanda Almanza and Victoria Rendon.

"We played solid doubles and did a good job of moving forward," Southwestern head tennis coach Billy Porter says. "Sara showed off her soft hands at the net throughout the match, often finding some nice angles."

Mitrofanova won 6-1, 6-0 over Harmsen at No. 1 singles, and Taylor Despriet followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Norris at No. 2 singles. Sydney Wahl was perfect against McElwain at No. 3 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Chisholm scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Rendon at No. 4 singles, Chandler Vrba bested Almanza 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Meeshti Shethia won 6-1, 6-0 over Trinity McEowen at No. 6 singles.

"Lauren played really good singles. She played with big margins, high shot tolerance, and closed well at the net," Porter says. "Chandler struggled with her serve but never lost focus and grinded hard from the baseline to get the win."

Southwestern improves to 8-3 with the win. The Pirates will travel to play matches against Texas Lutheran and St. Thomas on April 8 and 9.
